Homeschool Science Classes 
Welcome to Homeschool Science Class! We are thrilled to be kicking off the Fall school year with an exciting Homeschool curriculum. This year PMEC will be offering science classes once a month beginning Tuesday, September 19th. 
The structure for each session includes, one hour science education and one hour play/social interaction. The classes will  be divided by age during the first hour. Ages may combine for the second hour of various team building games and group activities.

Please find below an outline of what we planned for each month. Hope you can join us!

Who:
 Ages 5-7yrs & 8-10yrs
What: Homeschool Science Classes

Where: PMEC 66 Brook Rd Amherst, NH 03031 – Weather allowing, classes will be held outside.
When: The 3rd Tuesday of every month - from 9:00am - 11:00am 

Please Note: We will need a minimum of 6 students and maximum of 12 students allowed for each class. All classes will have an element of outdoor time; if weather is a factor we will be able to hold class inside while maintaining 3 feet apart.
 
September - Weather Fun — 
Join us as we learn about the study of meteorology and learn about different types of weather and climates. 

October - Exploring Physics — 
We will learn about Newton's first law of motion and explore concepts like gravity, drag and impact.  Students will design and make their own device for our egg drop challenge!!!

November - Genetics/Heritability — 
Have you ever wondered why some dogs have floppy ears and some have pointy? Come learn about genes and heritability through man's best friend dogs! Learn how dogs are helping humans fight diseases.

December - Ecosystems and Habitats -
Investigate the different parts of an ecosystem and how each part plays an important role.  We will look at different types of animal adaptations and how those adaptations help them survive in different habitats.

January -  Animal Tracking -
Winter is a great time to learn about animal tracks!  We will study different animal tracks and how animals move throughout the woods.  We will become animal detectives and see if we can figure out what animals have been walking around in the woods at PMEC. 

February - Candy Heart Science
Love and candy is in the air and all around us in February.  Let's have fun and explore different types of candy and find out how it is made while exploring the process of acid bases and density.

March - Sky Watchers -

Learn and discover about the Earth's place in the universe, how seasons are created, how we can use shadows to look for patterns and of course we can't forget about the sun

April - Get Growing -
Get Growing – We will focus on different seeds and plants and talk about how plants grow! We will take an up close look into the wonders of seeds.



Meet The Instructors
Michele Koltookian -
Hello! I am Michele Koltookian, a fellow Amherst resident and mom of twin boys. I am so grateful to be a PMEC educator and to be able to share my passion for all things science and nature. I am a former researcher who worked in the field of dog genetics. I hold a B.S. in Marine Science and Biology along with an M. Ed. in secondary education. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, baking, reading, and spending time outdoors. I am excited to bring my love of science and the knowledge that I gained over the years to kids at PMEC.

Laurie Toupin -
I am Laurie Toupin and I have been working at PMEC for a number of years as an environmental educator. I have a passion for nature, children, writing, and “messy” science! I am a former environmental engineer turned freelance writer/teacher. I have worked with children in many capacities, including directing children’s plays, homeschooling my own three children, Girl Scout leader, and teaching. I love hiking in the woods with my dogs and family.
