Presented by: Amherst Parks & Recreation & The Amherst Conservation Commission
Calling all holiday elves, nature lovers, and trail trekkers! This season, help us turn the trails of the Joe English Reservation into a winter wonderland filled with festive trees, joyful spirit, and a little bit of magic.
Starting November 29th, pick a tree along any trail and give it a holiday makeover! Whether it’s twinkly, sparkly, silly, or sweet — how you decorate is totally up to you.
Here’s how it works:
- Pick a tree on the trail — your tree, your style!
- Decorate it with care (and creativity!).
- Snap a selfie with your tree and send it, along with its location, to mkoltookian@amherstnh.gov.
- We’ll share your masterpiece on the PMEC Facebook page for all to see!
Then, bundle up and take a walk through the woods to see how your neighbors have decked the trails. Let’s fill the forest with cheer — the more decorated trees, the merrier!
A few magical notes:
- Edible decorations are welcome, but remember — woodland creatures are fast snackers! Your tasty ornaments might disappear quickly.
- Be kind to the forest! Please take down your decorations by Tuesday, January 2nd.

Decorating Rules and Tips:
A Few Helpful Reminders from the Trail Elves:
Be sure to let us know where your tree is!
Please email Michele Koltookian at mkoltookian@amherstnh.gov
with the location of your decorated tree (and don’t forget to send a selfie!).
Decorate with care!
Amherst Parks & Recreation and the Amherst Conservation Commission are not responsible for any lost or stolen decorations — so be thoughtful about what you hang!
Clean-up is a must!
All decorations must be removed by January 2, 2026. After that date, any remaining decorations will be taken down.
Secure your creations!
If you're using wire or hooks, please wrap them tightly around the branch so they don't blow away in the wind or snow.
Please, no tinsel!
As sparkly as it is, tinsel isn’t safe for wildlife and can make a mess on the trails. Thank you for helping us keep the forest clean and critter-friendly!
