Homeschool Science Classes Welcome to Homeschool Science Class! We are thrilled to be kicking off the Fall school year with an exciting Homeschool curriculum. This year PMEC will be offering science classes once a month beginning Tuesday, September 19th. The structure for each session includes, one hour science education and one hour play/social interaction. The classes will  be divided by age during the first hour. Ages may combine for the second hour of various team building games and group activities.Please find below an outline of what we planned for each month. Hope you can join us!Who: Ages 5-7yrs & 8-10yrsWhat: Homeschool Science ClassesWhere: PMEC 66 Brook Rd Amherst, NH 03031 – Weather allowing, classes will be held outside.When: The 3rd Tuesday of every month - from 9:00am - 11:00am Please Note: We will need a minimum of 6 students and maximum of 12 students allowed for each class. All classes will have an element of outdoor time; if weather is a factor we will be able to hold class inside while maintaining 3 feet apart. September - Weather Fun — Join us as we learn about the study of meteorology and learn about different types of weather and climates. October - Exploring Physics — We will learn about Newton's first law of motion and explore concepts like gravity, drag and impact.  Students will design and make their own device for our egg drop challenge!!!November - Genetics/Heritability — Have you ever wondered why some dogs have floppy ears and some have pointy? Come learn about genes and heritability through man's best friend dogs! Learn how dogs are helping humans fight diseases.December - Ecosystems and Habitats -Investigate the different parts of an ecosystem and how each part plays an important role.  We will look at different types of animal adaptations and how those adaptations help them survive in different habitats.January -  Animal Tracking -Winter is a great time to learn about animal tracks!  We will study different animal tracks and how animals move throughout the woods.  We will become animal detectives and see if we can figure out what animals have been walking around in the woods at PMEC. February - Candy Heart ScienceLove and candy is in the air and all around us in February.  Let's have fun and explore different types of candy and find out how it is made while exploring the process of acid bases and density.March - Sky Watchers - Learn and discover about the Earth's place in the universe, how seasons are created, how we can use shadows to look for patterns and of course we can't forget about the sunApril - Get Growing -Get Growing – We will focus on different seeds and plants and talk about how plants grow! We will take an up close look into the wonders of seeds.

Welcome To Nature's Playground where adventure and fun awaits!At Nature's Playground we will have fun exploring different habitats and learning all about what you can find out in the amazing woods all around you. Each class we will begin with a story, then circle time to discuss a new topic and do an activity related to the topic. We will end with a take-home craft. Who: Children ages 3-6 and their caregiversWhere: Peabody Mill Environmental centerWhen: Classes are the first three Thursdays of each month- 10:00am-10:45am. Fee: $29R; $36NR
 
2:30 PM - 4:30 PM    Afterschool Lego Adventures w/ Right Brain Curriculum - March/April - Lego Adventures - Ready, Set, Le-go
Jan/Feb Session - Get Your Lego Game On!Are you a Lego master? If so, it’s time to show off your skills! Each week in Lego Adventures, there is a new challenge to build: From skyscrapers to farms, bridges to airports, space stations to main streets, and everything in between! First, our Right Brain Curriculum instructors will review the history of what we are about to build: How airports graduated from landing strips to vast travel networks, how Depression-era farms survived hordes of grasshoppers, how aeroelasticity explains why the Tacoma bridge nicknamed “Galloping Gertie” collapsed. Then, it’s time to build! You will create a model of each type of structure out of an enormous assortment of provided Legos, then present your creation as we photograph and document it. Learning and Legos: A perfect match!March/April Session - New Adventure - Ready, Set, Le-go!If you love building with Legos, this is the class for you! Each week you will be challenged to create a sensational Lego scene. Each challenge is a mystery that your teacher will reveal – A helicopter rescue scene? A space shuttle launch site? Lego Godzilla attacking a city?? Best be ready for anything! Then it’s off to the races as you and a partner have limited time to create your scene and present it to the class. Presentation skills will be key as you try to persuade your classmates that your Lego creation is #1. Our Right Brain Curriculum Instructors will help you use persuasive language, eye contact and proper posture for perfected presentations. Legos and Public Speaking, now that’s a match!Who: Grades 1 - 4When: Thursdays after school for a 6 week session. Become a Woodland Warrior camper and join us for a day of fun in nature.  Campers will play games, explore trails and venture to find small hidden creatures in the woods! Come join us and enjoy an afternoon of fun and exploring at Peabody Mill Environmental Center.  We will explore the amazing hiking trails, play games and make crafts.  On early release Wednesdays we will pick up the explorers from Wilkins and bring them to PMEC for an afternoon of fun in nature! WHO: Grades 1-4 WHEN: Early Release Wednesdays WHERE: Peabody Mill Environmental Center, 66 Brook Road, Amherst FEE: $35R, $40NR (monthly) or $100R, $120NR (3 month bundle) **Transportation will be provided from Wilkins Elementary to PMEC.  Remember to register through the Wilkins Website PUP patrol.** Sample Schedule: 11:30 AM - Pick Up at Wilkins 12:00 PM - Arrive at PMEC 12:00PM- 12:15PM - Snack and bathroom break.12:15PM to 1:15PM -  Head out onto the trails for a fun weekly activity, exploring habitats, fort building, learning about animals at PMEC. 1:15 PM - Head back to PMEC 1:15PM-2:15PM-  Options of Lego challenges, Gaga Ball, nature crafts, quiet homework time 2:30PM - Pick UpPlease pick up on time.
