Stearns-Davis Community Garden - 2025 Community Garden Plot REGISTRATION OPENS JAN 2NDThe Stearns-Davis Community Garden was established at Joshua's Park, 31 Courthouse Road, to maintain the traditional agricultural use and history of the Amherst Village. The Amherst land Trust organized the design and installation of the infrastructure, including a permanent deer-proof fence and an automatic irrigation system. The garden is allocated by Amherst Recreation and is managed by the Stearns-Davis Community Garden Committee (SDCGC) and the Amherst Recreation Department.Garden plots will be allotted on a first come, first served basis with a nominal fee to cover maintenance and utilities. Each gardener is free to select their favorite vegetable varieties and lay out their plot accordingly. produce may not be sold on-site, but gardeners may elect to share surplus with friends, neighbors and charities. There are a total of 40 plots.Updates for 2025 - The Garden will have a couple of upgrades before the 2025 growing season. -Fall of 2023 - The state toxicologist revealed there is very little trace of PFOA's & PFAS in the samples of grown vegetables taken in the fall of 2022. -2023 - New filter installed on well pump to filter out all PFOA and PFAS.-2024 - Metal mesh fence to surround the bottom of the garden fence to help keep rabbits out. -2024 - No price increase for 2024 gardening season. -2025 - Opening Cleanup date will be 4/26 or 4/27.Schedule for 2025:January 2-January 31 Gardeners that had a plot in 2024 and are in good standing are eligible to register for one 10'x20'plot. Fitness: Functional Strength Training - Functional Strength Training - (TUESDAY Session) Functional strength training focuses on exercises that prepare the body for activities performed in daily life. Incorporating functional compound movements with added resistance or just body weight will increase muscle mass. Addition of muscle will improve strength, endurance, balance and overall fitness. Classes will include education on good form with activities that include progressions and regressions for each activity. The Amherst land Trust organized the design and installation of the infrastructure, including a permanent deer-proof fence and an automatic irrigation system. The garden is allocated by Amherst Recreation and is managed by the Stearns-Davis Community Garden Committee (SDCGC) and the Amherst Recreation Department.Garden plots will be allotted on a first come, first served basis with a nominal fee to cover maintenance and utilities. The garden is allocated by Amherst Recreation and is managed by the Stearns-Davis Community Garden Committee (SDCGC) and the Amherst Recreation Department.Garden plots will be allotted on a first come, first served basis with a nominal fee to cover maintenance and utilities. Each gardener is free to select their favorite vegetable varieties and lay out their plot accordingly. produce may not be sold on-site, but gardeners may elect to share surplus with friends, neighbors and charities. There are a total of 40 plots.Updates for 2025 - The Garden will have a couple of upgrades before the 2025 growing season. -Fall of 2023 - The state toxicologist revealed there is very little trace of PFOA's & PFAS in the samples of grown vegetables taken in the fall of 2022. -2023 - New filter installed on well pump to filter out all PFOA and PFAS.-2024 - Metal mesh fence to surround the bottom of the garden fence to help keep rabbits out. -2024 - No price increase for 2024 gardening season. -2025 - Opening Cleanup date will be 4/26 or 4/27.Schedule for 2025:January 2-January 31 Gardeners that had a plot in 2024 and are in good standing are eligible to register for one 10'x20'plot. February 1-28Beginning Feb 1, Amherst residents gardening at Stearns-Davis Community Garden for the first time may register for a single plot with Amherst Parks and Recreation in person, on the phone or online on this page. Afterschool Art Studio at Wilkins - October (3D Art) Come join the creative arts studio for kids in grades 1-4! Holly Majkut and Jessica Anderson are excited to collaborate and join forces to offer the afterschool arts program! Allow your child to discover or nurture their inner artist through exploring a variety of art materials. Art studio time will allow your child to create their own masterpieces. Specific art mediums will be introduced each monthly session to allow the artist exposure and increased experience. (Schedule below). The Amherst land Trust organized the design and installation of the infrastructure, including a permanent deer-proof fence and an automatic irrigation system. The garden is allocated by Amherst Recreation and is managed by the Stearns-Davis Community Garden Committee (SDCGC) and the Amherst Recreation Department.Garden plots will be allotted on a first come, first served basis with a nominal fee to cover maintenance and utilities. Each gardener is free to select their favorite vegetable varieties and lay out their plot accordingly. produce may not be sold on-site, but gardeners may elect to share surplus with friends, neighbors and charities. The Amherst land Trust organized the design and installation of the infrastructure, including a permanent deer-proof fence and an automatic irrigation system. The garden is allocated by Amherst Recreation and is managed by the Stearns-Davis Community Garden Committee (SDCGC) and the Amherst Recreation Department.Garden plots will be allotted on a first come, first served basis with a nominal fee to cover maintenance and utilities. Each gardener is free to select their favorite vegetable varieties and lay out their plot accordingly. produce may not be sold on-site, but gardeners may elect to share surplus with friends, neighbors and charities. Afterschool Art Studio at Wilkins - October (3D Art) Come join the creative arts studio for kids in grades 1-4! Holly Majkut and Jessica Anderson are excited to collaborate and join forces to offer the afterschool arts program! Allow your child to discover or nurture their inner artist through exploring a variety of art materials. Art studio time will allow your child to create their own masterpieces. Specific art mediums will be introduced each monthly session to allow the artist exposure and increased experience. (Schedule below). Mini art history lessons will also be incorporated based upon the theme of the month to provide education regarding the history of the art style/technique. Sample ideas and directives will be available to assist with sparking creativity and imagination. This is not a formal art instruction class. The art studio concept focuses on creating and exploring art materials, having fun, and socializing. Doors on the Green - Halloween- Space and Door Rental It's the most wonderful time of the year in Amherst.... It's Halloween!The Amherst Makerspace will be renting undecorated doors and 10 x 10 spaces on the Amherst Green for Halloween-loving groups or individuals to participate in the great event that is Halloween in Amherst! Halloween is always celebrated on October 31st.You may rent a door and a space, or rent just the space and provide your own door. Decorate your door and space however you choose, in the spirit of this family-friendly holiday. All items other than the doors (if rented) must be provided by the participant and removed at the end of the night. Candy for Trick or Treaters is an expectation for this event. Doors will be available for pickup before the event if you wish to decorate your door prior to October 31st. Otherwise, rented doors will be set up and on the Amherst Green ready to decorate. Trick or Treating will be from 5pm-8pm and all spaces need to be cleaned of everything but the rented doors, which will be picked up.Businesses/Civic OrganizationsBusinesses are welcome to participate. Doors on the Green - Halloween- Space Only Rental It's the most wonderful time of the year in Amherst.... It's Halloween!The Amherst Makerspace will be renting undecorated doors and 10 x 10 spaces on the Amherst Green for Halloween-loving groups or individuals to participate in the great event that is Halloween in Amherst! Halloween is always celebrated on October 31st.You may rent a door and a space, or rent just the space and provide your own door. Decorate your door and space however you choose, in the spirit of this family-friendly holiday. All items other than the doors (if rented) must be provided by the participant and removed at the end of the night. Candy for Trick or Treaters is an expectation for this event. Doors will be available for pickup before the event if you wish to decorate your door prior to October 31st. Otherwise, rented doors will be set up and on the Amherst Green ready to decorate. Trick or Treating will be from 5pm-8pm and all spaces need to be cleaned of everything but the rented doors, which will be picked up.Businesses/Civic OrganizationsBusinesses are welcome to participate. We ask that you decorate your door in the spirit of the holiday and pass out candy. Stearns-Davis Community Garden - 2025 Community Garden Plot REGISTRATION OPENS JAN 2NDThe Stearns-Davis Community Garden was established at Joshua's Park, 31 Courthouse Road, to maintain the traditional agricultural use and history of the Amherst Village. The Amherst land Trust organized the design and installation of the infrastructure, including a permanent deer-proof fence and an automatic irrigation system. The garden is allocated by Amherst Recreation and is managed by the Stearns-Davis Community Garden Committee (SDCGC) and the Amherst Recreation Department.Garden plots will be allotted on a first come, first served basis with a nominal fee to cover maintenance and utilities. Each gardener is free to select their favorite vegetable varieties and lay out their plot accordingly. produce may not be sold on-site, but gardeners may elect to share surplus with friends, neighbors and charities. There are a total of 40 plots.Updates for 2025 - The Garden will have a couple of upgrades before the 2025 growing season. -Fall of 2023 - The state toxicologist revealed there is very little trace of PFOA's & PFAS in the samples of grown vegetables taken in the fall of 2022. -2023 - New filter installed on well pump to filter out all PFOA and PFAS.-2024 - Metal mesh fence to surround the bottom of the garden fence to help keep rabbits out. -2024 - No price increase for 2024 gardening season. -2025 - Opening Cleanup date will be 4/26 or 4/27.Schedule for 2025:January 2-January 31 Gardeners that had a plot in 2024 and are in good standing are eligible to register for one 10'x20'plot. Afterschool Art Studio at Wilkins - November (Mixed Media) Come join the creative arts studio for kids in grades 1-4! Holly Majkut and Jessica Anderson are excited to collaborate and join forces to offer the afterschool arts program! Allow your child to discover or nurture their inner artist through exploring a variety of art materials. Art studio time will allow your child to create their own masterpieces. Specific art mediums will be introduced each monthly session to allow the artist exposure and increased experience. (Schedule below). Mini art history lessons will also be incorporated based upon the theme of the month to provide education regarding the history of the art style/technique. Sample ideas and directives will be available to assist with sparking creativity and imagination. This is not a formal art instruction class. Stearns-Davis Community Garden - 2025 Community Garden Plot REGISTRATION OPENS JAN 2NDThe Stearns-Davis Community Garden was established at Joshua's Park, 31 Courthouse Road, to maintain the traditional agricultural use and history of the Amherst Village. The Amherst land Trust organized the design and installation of the infrastructure, including a permanent deer-proof fence and an automatic irrigation system. The garden is allocated by Amherst Recreation and is managed by the Stearns-Davis Community Garden Committee (SDCGC) and the Amherst Recreation Department.Garden plots will be allotted on a first come, first served basis with a nominal fee to cover maintenance and utilities. Each gardener is free to select their favorite vegetable varieties and lay out their plot accordingly. produce may not be sold on-site, but gardeners may elect to share surplus with friends, neighbors and charities. There are a total of 40 plots.Updates for 2025 - The Garden will have a couple of upgrades before the 2025 growing season. -Fall of 2023 - The state toxicologist revealed there is very little trace of PFOA's & PFAS in the samples of grown vegetables taken in the fall of 2022. -2023 - New filter installed on well pump to filter out all PFOA and PFAS.-2024 - Metal mesh fence to surround the bottom of the garden fence to help keep rabbits out. -2024 - No price increase for 2024 gardening season. -2025 - Opening Cleanup date will be 4/26 or 4/27.Schedule for 2025:January 2-January 31 Gardeners that had a plot in 2024 and are in good standing are eligible to register for one 10'x20'plot. Registration must be done online with the code or on the phone with Amherst Parks and Recreation. February 1-28Beginning Feb 1, Amherst residents gardening at Stearns-Davis Community Garden for the first time may register for a single plot with Amherst Parks and Recreation in person, on the phone or online on this page. These plots are first come, first served and fill VERY QUICKLY! We advise you to make sure you are able to easily access your Amherst Recreation household account and depending on your interest you set your alarm! Registration goes live at 12:01am 2/1/25.Returning members will be automatically given the same plot as last season.
