The Stearns-Davis Community Garden was established at Joshua's Park, 31 Courthouse Road, to maintain the traditional agricultural use and history of the Amherst Village. The Amherst land Trust organized the design and installation of the infrastructure, including a permanent deer-proof fence and an automatic irrigation system. The garden is allocated by Amherst Recreation and is managed by the Stearns-Davis Community Garden Committee (SDCGC) and the Amherst Recreation Department.Garden plots will be allotted on a first come, first served basis with a nominal fee to cover maintenance and utilities. Each gardener is free to select their favorite vegetable varieties and lay out their plot accordingly. produce may not be sold on-site, but gardeners may elect to share surplus with friends, neighbors and charities. There are a total of 40 plots.Schedule for 2021:January 4-January 31         Gardeners that had a plot in 2020 and are in good standing are eligible to register for one 10'x20'plot. Registration must be done in person or on the phone with Amherst Parks and Recreation (not available online.) February 1-28Beginning Monday Feb 1, Amherst residents gardening at Stearns-Davis Community Garden for the first time may register for a single plot with Amherst Parks and Recreation in person, on the phone or online on this page. These plots are first come, first served and fill VERY QUICKLY! We advise you to make sure you are able to easily access your Amherst Recreation household account and depending on your interest you set your alarm! Registration goes live at 12:01am 2/1/21.Returning members will be automatically given the same plot as last season. We offer three class options for Yoga with long-time instructor, Leslie Formby. Students aged 13 and up are welcome. Make time for yourself with exercise and mediation and choose the one that works for your schedule!Tuesdays at PMEC, 8:45-10AM Hatha YogaYoga poses, breath work, meditation, and relaxation are included in this 75 minute class. Improve flexibility and strength as you begin to tune in to yourself and build your ability to relax. Increase your joy and energy with gentle yoga poses that enliven and rejuvenate you. This class is suitable for all levels.Thursdays at PMEC, 8:45-10AM Mindful Flow YogaThis 75 minute class includes gently flowing yoga poses, breath work, meditation and relaxation. Letting our breath lead our movements, we move gently through sun salutations as we strengthen, stretch and tone our body and mind! Previous yoga experience helpful. We are so fortunate to have a growing Ukulele Program! We continue to offer After-School Classes with Robert Allwarden for children grades 2-4, and have evening classes for adults! After-School Ukulele for Grades 2-4Has your child wanted to learn an instrument, but you aren't sure you are ready to commit to the expense? Has the Ukulele craze caught their interest? Are you ready to see them spend time with something that does not have a glass screen??Classes are set up with a 5 week session. Students will "begin where they are", either with some knowledge of basics or absolutely none! Robert has a great deal of experience identifying students' abilities and developing their skills to the next level.Students will work on chords and simple songs to play and sing. No prior knowledge is needed.  All instructional materials will be provided, including ukuleles during instruction. If the students want to practice at home, they will need their own ukulele.  Who: 2nd-4th Graders Where: After school at Wilkins Elementary, #13 the Music RoomWhen: Tuesdays, 2:45-3:45pmWhy: Because the Ukulele is Cool, Portable, Relatively Inexpensive, and FUN!Fee:$75R, $90NR We need a minimum of 5 students, with a maximum of 15*Thank you for respecting the 2nd grade cut off- we look forward to having your 1st grader join the program next year!Ukulele for Adults!Participants will learn the basic chords and receive sheet music with simple songs to begin playing. Welcome to I Love Nature-Is your preschooler eager to learn about the world they live in or love wandering through the woods? At I Love Nature, we have lots of fun exploring different habitats and learning all about what you can find out in the amazing woods all around you. Each class we will begin with a story, then circle time to discuss a new topic and do an activity related to the topic. We will end with a take-home craft. Who: Children ages 3-6 and their caregivers Where: Peabody Mill Environmental center When: Classes are the first three Thursdays of each month- 10:00am-10:45am. In case of inclement weather class will be rescheduled to the 4th Thursday of the month. Participants will be notified by email by 9am.Fee: $24R; $29NRSeptember: Animal habitats - We will explore and visit a variety of animal habitats that you can find in the woods of PMEC.  We will take a closer look at the trees and life in the trees as well as life underground. October: Birds - We will learn about different types of birds that live here at PMEC and how their beaks help them survive, what they eat and what their homes look like.Please Note: October dates are the 7th, 21st and 28th. There is no class Oct 14th.November: Superhero Bug Powers - We will explore the unique attributes of some of the bugs you can find out in the woods! We will explore the woods and uncover some of the mysteries of the bugs in our backyard.December: Tracking- Find out who has been in the woods at PMEC – Winter is a perfect time to get out and follow animal tracks. We will become animal detectives and go out and learn about animal tracks, as well as other signs that can help us track animals and find where they live and where they venture to in the winter.January: Snow Much Fun - We will learn all about the wonders of snow, ice and winter weather. We will take a closer look at the amazing snowflake and learn about how animals can survive in the snow. Get ready to learn and explore all the fun that we can have with snow! February: Things With Wings – Insects, birds and bats. We will focus on a variety of creatures with wings and visit their different shelters here at PMEC. March: Hibernation - Let us explore animal hibernation and who is asleep in the woods and beginning to wake up. We will focus on a variety of animals and how they survive through the winter at PMEC. April: Circle of Life – Frogs, butterflies and bugs. We will learn all about the wonders of life and how certain bugs and animals transform! May: Get Growing- We will focus on different seeds and plants and talk about gardening and how plants grow. We will create journals and head out each week to add new animals and plants to them. Please Note: We will need a minimum of 6 students and maximum of 12 students allowed for each class. All classes will be held outdoors.

All items other than the doors (if rented) must be provided by the participant and removed at the end of the night. Candy for Trick or Treaters is an expectation for this event. Doors will be available for pickup before the event if you wish to decorate your door prior to October 31st. Otherwise, rented doors will be set up and on the Amherst Green ready to decorate. Trick or Treating will be from 1pm-4pm and all spaces need to be cleaned of everything but the rented doors, which will be picked up.BusinessesBusinesses are welcome to participate. We continue to offer After-School Classes with Robert Allwarden for children grades 2-4, and have evening classes for adults! After-School Ukulele for Grades 2-4Has your child wanted to learn an instrument, but you aren't sure you are ready to commit to the expense? Has the Ukulele craze caught their interest? Are you ready to see them spend time with something that does not have a glass screen??Classes are set up with a 5 week session. Welcome to I Love Nature-Is your preschooler eager to learn about the world they live in or love wandering through the woods? At I Love Nature, we have lots of fun exploring different habitats and learning all about what you can find out in the amazing woods all around you. Each class we will begin with a story, then circle time to discuss a new topic and do an activity related to the topic. We will end with a take-home craft. Who: Children ages 3-6 and their caregivers Where: Peabody Mill Environmental center When: Classes are the first three Thursdays of each month- 10:00am-10:45am. In case of inclement weather class will be rescheduled to the 4th Thursday of the month. Participants will be notified by email by 9am.Fee: $24R; $29NRSeptember: Animal habitats - We will explore and visit a variety of animal habitats that you can find in the woods of PMEC.  We will take a closer look at the trees and life in the trees as well as life underground. We will become animal detectives and go out and learn about animal tracks, as well as other signs that can help us track animals and find where they live and where they venture to in the winter.January: Snow Much Fun - We will learn all about the wonders of snow, ice and winter weather. We will take a closer look at the amazing snowflake and learn about how animals can survive in the snow. Get ready to learn and explore all the fun that we can have with snow! February: Things With Wings – Insects, birds and bats. We will focus on a variety of creatures with wings and visit their different shelters here at PMEC. March: Hibernation - Let us explore animal hibernation and who is asleep in the woods and beginning to wake up. We will focus on a variety of animals and how they survive through the winter at PMEC. April: Circle of Life – Frogs, butterflies and bugs. We will learn all about the wonders of life and how certain bugs and animals transform! May: Get Growing- We will focus on different seeds and plants and talk about gardening and how plants grow. We will create journals and head out each week to add new animals and plants to them. Please Note: We will need a minimum of 6 students and maximum of 12 students allowed for each class. All classes will be held outdoors.

Welcome to I Love Nature-Is your preschooler eager to learn about the world they live in or love wandering through the woods? At I Love Nature, we have lots of fun exploring different habitats and learning all about what you can find out in the amazing woods all around you. Each class we will begin with a story, then circle time to discuss a new topic and do an activity related to the topic. We will end with a take-home craft. Who: Children ages 3-6 and their caregivers Where: Peabody Mill Environmental center When: Classes are the first three Thursdays of each month- 10:00am-10:45am. In case of inclement weather class will be rescheduled to the 4th Thursday of the month. Participants will be notified by email by 9am.Fee: $24R; $29NRSeptember: Animal habitats - We will explore and visit a variety of animal habitats that you can find in the woods of PMEC.  We will take a closer look at the trees and life in the trees as well as life underground. October: Birds - We will learn about different types of birds that live here at PMEC and how their beaks help them survive, what they eat and what their homes look like.Please Note: October dates are the 7th, 21st and 28th. There is no class Oct 14th.November: Superhero Bug Powers - We will explore the unique attributes of some of the bugs you can find out in the woods! We will explore the woods and uncover some of the mysteries of the bugs in our backyard.December: Tracking- Find out who has been in the woods at PMEC – Winter is a perfect time to get out and follow animal tracks. We will become animal detectives and go out and learn about animal tracks, as well as other signs that can help us track animals and find where they live and where they venture to in the winter.January: Snow Much Fun - We will learn all about the wonders of snow, ice and winter weather. We will take a closer look at the amazing snowflake and learn about how animals can survive in the snow. Get ready to learn and explore all the fun that we can have with snow! February: Things With Wings – Insects, birds and bats. We will focus on a variety of creatures with wings and visit their different shelters here at PMEC. March: Hibernation - Let us explore animal hibernation and who is asleep in the woods and beginning to wake up. We will focus on a variety of animals and how they survive through the winter at PMEC. April: Circle of Life – Frogs, butterflies and bugs. We will learn all about the wonders of life and how certain bugs and animals transform! May: Get Growing- We will focus on different seeds and plants and talk about gardening and how plants grow. We will create journals and head out each week to add new animals and plants to them. Please Note: We will need a minimum of 6 students and maximum of 12 students allowed for each class. All classes will be held outdoors.

We will learn and experiment with why leaves change colors. We will explore a variety of pinecones and uncover their amazing secrets. First hour of structured learning and second hour of informal outside activity.November - Animal Adaption — Skulls, furs, beaks all help animals adapt for their particular life styles. Let’s learn how with this interactive lesson! First hour of structured learning and second hour of informal outside activity.December – Animal Tracking -  Winter is a great time to learn about animal tracks! We will study different animal tracks and how animals move throughout the woods. We will become detectives and see if we can figure out what animals have been walking around in the woods at PMEC. We will learn about tracking animals and other useful techniques that might help you to figure out what animals have been there before you!

Join Amherst Rec Lacrosse and SVL for our fall lacrosse clinics!  These clinics will be held on Mondays in November from 5:30-7:00pm at SHS Simeon Wilson Field.  The first 30 minutes will be warm up and skills followed by 1 hour of pickup games.  All 8U-12U athletes of all abilities are welcome and encouraged to join.  We will break out the kids by ages.  Don't worry if you can't make all of the clinics, come to as many as you can.  All proceeds from these fall clinics will be used to help fund pre-season dome time in the spring. Clinic DetailsWho: 8U - 12U (1st grade-6th grade)Where: Simeon Wilson FieldTime: 5-7:30 pmDates: Monday 11/1, 11/8, 11/15, 11/22Fee: $25R; $30NREquipment NeededGirls: Stick, goggles, mouth guard, cleatsBoys: Stick, helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, elbow pads, cup, mouth guard, cleats
